File Extension HT_

File extension: HT' or .ht'

Author of the .ht' file extension: Half Baked Software

Category: Miscellaneous files

Programs that use the .ht' file type: Applications on the Web that were created with Hot Potatoes

Explanation of .ht' file extensions:

The .ht' file extension is used by developers who use Hot Potatoes. Hot Potatoes is a suite of software with six applications included that allow users to create interactive quizzes and exercises for the Internet.

Hot Potatoes uses XHTML, CSS, and Javascript to create exercises. While normally XHTML would generate a page with the .HTM or .HTML extension, since the source files that Hot Potatoes creates are not complete pages, they are assigned the .ht' extension. HT' files contain all of the HTML code for a specific Hot Potatoes exercise while other files contain the Javascript and CSS codes.

Typical problems associated with the .ht' file extension:

If you click on an .ht' file with a text editor, all you will see is a list of placeholders, not a working exercise. These files are designed to be used in conjunction with other files to create a webpage so this is a normal, expected result.

Most end users shouldn't encounter .ht' errors unless the developer edited the original source file and made a mistake somewhere along the line.

Hot Potato users may find that an .ht' source file is missing or corrupt. This can happen when the Windows registry contains invalid instructions or has had references to .ht' files removed by spyware or other processes.

Solutions/Recommendations:

HT' files are found in the Source folder in the Hot Potatoes directory. If you are creating an exercise using Hot Potatoes and receiving HT' errors, it's possible the files may be in a different location, especially if you've moved them. The software automatically searches for the files in the c:'Program Files'HotPotatoes6'source' folder and if not found begins looking in the c:'Program Files'HotPotatoes6'srcbackup' folder.

If you know that you've moved the HT' files, you can instruct Hot Potatoes to go to a new location by starting a Potato and pressing Control ' Alt ' Shift ' S. Now, choose the folder.

To reset the source file location back to the default folder, press Control ' Alt ' Shift ' T.
